Charging must follow the exact directives as provided by the battery supplier. The correct charger must be used in order to ensure the full charging time is reached at the correct Current. This is critical for ensuring the best cycle life and full use of the cells are achieved in the safest way.
To protect the battery from over-discharging, most devices prevent operation beyond the specified end-of-discharge voltage. Discharging rates are determined by three factors:
- The discharging ability of each individual cell
- The discharge allowance of the battery pack BMS
- The amount of energy required by the electric motor
Increased charging and discharging rates are not recommended for the fact that the cell temperatures are rapidly increased while drastically lowering the life span and performance of the cells.
